Activity 1 - Communication
Students often flounder when trying to recall the cardinal and ordinal directions. Here are a few things I use to help them recall these important points of orientation.
Here's a template to get you thinking about what the song is helping you to recall.
I still get "lost" in our building trying to figure out which direction I am facing....this is a great activity for students. Create reliance on ourselves verses the car direction thingy....I like it :)
ReplyDeleteI always tell them North Oaks is really East Oaks and Caribou is south, the beach is west and Mrs. I. lives north. They start to get the room layout then, but still struggle with the paper compass.
DeleteI like this video. It doesn't change the fact that I am challenged when it comes to directions using anything but rights or lefts.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteHeidi, I like the video and the song! This year in social studies I had a class that LOVED to sing!! :) I cannot tell you the number of times they broke out into Fifty-Nifty United States or the Continent Song! They were really silly, but that being said, using songs for student recall is super effective! I will definitely be using this video, thanks for sharing!
